Columbus Ohio Wedding Photographer | A Special Wedding

Funny how life changes.  When  you are younger you live in the illusion that life at that moment is how it will be forever, then you get older and quickly realize that is not quite how it works.  Things change, people change, it’s never quite the same.  Never would I have imagined just a few years back that I would be one day photographing my own grandfather’s wedding.  Of course, I am sure that just a few short years ago he himself would have never imagined getting married for a second time.  In fact, while we were sitting with him in the basement of the church waiting for the ceremony to being, my Pap laughingly said to us that he had originally picked out the very suit he was wearing for his own funeral!  Funny how life changes….  As we all know, sometimes change is bad and other times it is good.  This was one of those times when it was good.  After my grandmother passed away two years ago, I saw a change in my grandfather.  He spoke less, smiled less, and definitely laughed less, and rightfully so.  That is until Kitty came along.  I saw my Pap once again.  I was so happy to hear that they were going to get married, and I was honored to be able to photograph such a special moment.  It was a beautiful day witnessing two people who lost their first loves come together to start a new journey.  I think my dad said it best when he wrote in their card:  ”Life sure takes some twists and turns sometimes, but how you handle them is what really matters.  You both have decided that with God’s help you will continue to live life to the fullest.”  Congratulations again Pap and Kitty!  I know God will continue to bless you both:)

Columbus Ohio Wedding Photographer | JoLynn and Nick Part One

I have been so blessed with the couples that I have had the pleasure of working with and JoLynn and Nick are definitely another one of those special couples.  Even though JoLynn and I had only met once before and I met Nick for the first time on their wedding day, it really felt like I had known both of them forever!  They have been together for a while now, and you can easily see the close bond that they share with one another.  The entire day was filled with emotion; happiness, excitement, joy, a little bit of nervousness, and sadness.  JoLynn had mentioned to me in our previous meeting that her mother had passed away and so she really wanted to have some special photos taken with her father.  We decided to do a first look not only with Nick, but also with her father.  It was such a beautiful moment and I was honored to be there to capture the emotion of her father seeing her for the first time in her wedding dress.  Even though JoLynn’s mother was not their physically, she did an amazing job including her  through out her wedding day.  There was a beautiful candle lit in her honor, she wore her mother’s wedding ring, and she even had two beautiful charms made with her mother’s photographs.  One she presented to her father to wear on his suit jacket, and the other was tied around her bouquet.  It was such a wonderful way of keeping her mother’s memory alive.  The entire day went so smoothly, and the weather was perfect for a late February wedding.  Even though JoLynn had some trepidation about doing a first look with Nick before the ceremony, it went really well.  Nick even presented JoLynn with a beautiful pearl necklace to wear the rest of the day.  We had a few moments to capture some intimate photographs with just the two of them before the ceremony began.  Even though it was sunny outside, it was definitely not warm, but JoLynn and Nick were troopers.  We had so much fun taking a few outdoor photos around the church.  Since I had so many great moments that I wanted to share, I decided to split this blog into two posts.  The second post will show photos from the ceremony and reception.  Be on the look out for the second post!  JoLynn and Nick’s wedding was a great way to start my 2012 year of weddings.  Thank you to both of you for allowing me to share a small part of your beautiful day!  Seeing how close you and your families are I know that you will have a wonderful and long married life together!  It was an honor to photograph your special day!

JoLynn & Nick - Courtney,

I don’t even know where to begin. Nick and I absolutely loved working with you and Doug on our wedding day! The first time I met you, I knew it was going to be perfect. Then on our wedding day, it just felt like we were a group of friends! It was great to be able to laugh and joke about things, and yes, even tear up a few times. You and Doug made us feel so comfortable. We are so happy you feel the same way! We love our pictures and I can’t stop looking at them! It’s truly amazing how well you were able to capture our emotions and all of those special moments. We’re so glad we listened to you and did the “first look” and took pictures prior to the ceremony. These are definitely some of our favorite photographs and we will cherish those the most. We can’t thank you enough for being our photographer on our special day, but more importantly our friend.

With love, JoLynn & Nick

Columbus Ohio Wedding Photographer | The Wedding Experience

This past Friday was a pretty exciting day for me.  I was apart of my first bridal show, The Wedding Experience:) I know that you are probably thinking “what’s the big deal?” but being apart of a bridal show has been one of my goals since I started my photography business three years ago.  I’m not kidding I actually wrote it out in my business plan… (yes that’s right I really did write out an official business plan, I was trying to be all legit ok lol) Goals: Attend Bridal Show… CHECK!  It’s all about those baby steps:) In all seriousness though, it really has been amazing watching my crazy idea of becoming a wedding photographer turn into a business that I love so dearly.  I was so excited to be out on my own, and have a booth that really conveyed my style and my brand.  Doug was once again my right hand man, and was a HUGE help to me.  I am not joking when I say I really do not know what I would do with out him!  Not only is he an awesome second shooter for me, but he has been such a huge supporter of me and my business that I know I would not be where I am today with out his help!  Ok, enough gushing;) Any who, The Wedding Experience was held in two locations downtown Columbus, The State House and The Westin.  We were located at the beautiful Westin where the overall theme for the night was Marie Antoinette.  The grand ballroom was beautifully decorated by Bart Krogman and his team at FlOURISH with tons of pinks, golds, and blues!  Doug and I had such a great time meeting with new couples and talking to them about their wedding details.  Later on in the evening they even had a mock cake cutting, first dance, and bouquet toss.  Everyone had a great time.  I’m not sure what 2012 will bring for CMP, but my hope is that I will continue to have these opportunities to grow.  Starting this dream has been a lot of hard work, long hours, and sometimes tears (sometimes:)) but I wouldn’t change it for anything!

Happy Monday Everyone!
